I did do the stop leak, and then JB weld. A couple of hours of sitting on my workbench filled with water, and I saw no leaks. Yay. I painted the hub, reassembled the motor, and proceeded with the rest of the rebuild.

You say there is a gap between 585 and the tailbone "when completely furled." The governor spring should be pulling the tailbone up against the stop on the 585. I took down a 12' Mogul years ago. Wound up selling it to Ralph Wiebusch, who had it re-galvanized and installed it to re-circulate water from a small pond.

Looks like you may also have the X609 furl lever for the six footer. You need the A609 for the 8' mill.
