Re: Question

It's not a nut. Looks like a pipe plug with a hole in it for the pump rod. Unfortunately, it's not pipe thread (IMHO). However, I would use a drilled pipe plug and re-thread the mast pipe. They can be bought new. My question is whether the wave washer is to be installed curved up or curved down ...

Re: Gin Poles for Raising Motors on Top of Towers

When I was using gin poles, I depended on the ground crew to pull up the mill for me. I used a 3 line block & tackle. The pole base was angle iron strapped to the platform. The middle was chained loosely to the top of the tower at the turret. 2 ropes to handle: 1 pulling the wheel or motor away from ...

Re: Tower legs, 3 or 4

From wreckage I've seen, the foundation elements are the weak point. Ground irons pull out and lower leg sections bend to allow ground angle irons to pull straight up. A sturdy bottom section is a benefit as well as the pullout mechanism. If the fan is facing into the wind, a larger moment is ...

Actually its a 'green book'. This is looking pretty close as far as I can tell. 8 footer con rod is strait, 10 footer has a dog leg offset.

Re: Baker Direct Stroke Connecting Rod ?

Yes, that's a possibility. But, an eccentric flange for a steam engine slide valve actuator is usually 2 pieces( bearing race is capped and the neck is a bolt on. too, so the valve timing and cutoff distance can be adjusted. Also, the steam parts never used a ball bearing race like what I see in ...

Baker Direct Stroke Connecting Rod ?

I bought this hunk of cast steel at an estate auction for $5 thinking it was the connecting rod for a Baker Direct Stroke windmill motor. However, it has an offset crank pin location. My Baker Direct Stroke motor's connecting rod is a little smaller and straight (with no offset). Am I on the right ...

Re: Furling a Windmill Question

If it's truly "furled". (My F & Ws operate the same way), the fan is perpendicular to the tail van and the brake band is tight. On my A602 (same as A702) the brake band tension is controlled by a spring adjuster. I could see a sudden cross wind putting a momentary force on the wheel which might ...

Re: What does everyone use for paint on blades? Looking for that galvanized look again.

20160708_205034.jpg Yes. Galv. first then Hammered. Note that you need to shake both type's can VERY thoroughly as the zinc and hammering particles are suspended in a paint. This ensures that you get a uniform look and covering. I also recommend the pistol grip applicator that snaps over the top of ...
