Re: fly ball governors or electric dump load

I believe the voltage regulator was a kit option for the 1222H model. I opened the box of a NOS one and snapped a couple pics. Hope it helps.

Re: fly ball governors or electric dump load

Not sure I have an answer you’re looking for. I’m really only familiar with (and a fan of) the early machines which were all DC. Dump resistors weren’t in their vocabulary. The last thing you want to do with a DC gen is wear out the brushes and throw the power away. Some of the mfg did have field co...

Re: Mystery Paris Dunn

I haven't seen any literature that shows that PD variant. The droopy tail angle iron looks amateurish but you finding 3 of them spread out could mean that they were made for or by a PD retailer. The tower really interests me, one I haven't seen. It appears to be constructed the way PD did it. They b...

Re: Josephine from Utah with a Jacobs to sell or?

I recommend the American Windmill Museum in Lubbock. I know they need a Jacobs like yours in their wind electric collection. If you want to give me a call or email ( my number is in my bio) I can tell you who to talk to and contact info. I don’t like to put that info in the public domain.

Re: Josephine from Utah with a Jacobs to sell or?

The Jacobs Little America story is pretty interesting. Here’s a sequence of photos from 1929-1955. (Reverse order) 1929—1st camp—Three 70 ft towers erected for radio transmission 1934–2nd camp—Jacobs mounted to one of the radio towers. 1947–Admiral Byrd’s son visits Little America 1954—Bud Waite dis...

Re: Josephine from Utah with a Jacobs to sell or?

Bottom line after seeing your pics and conferring with a couple of guys I consider my mentors, your machine absolutely needs to be in a museum. A few jaws hit the ground….It may be the earliest known Jacobs that is still in mostly original condition. It appears to have a few touch ups and verifying ...

Re: Josephine from Utah with a Jacobs to sell or?

Hi Josephine The model, condition and completeness will give us a better idea on value. It can be worth anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand. If it is an early Jacobs like Admiral Byrd used at Little America, then it may have more historic value. They’re not very common. That model had a ...
