Re: How do I drill a hole into the corner of angle iron?
Today, I was taking apart a mast pipe in a home-made stub tower and this spacer fell out: It looks like about a hundred years ago, somebody was using the same method Windy was suggesting.

What is this?
I've been going through my pile of tower parts and this came to the surface. It is about 24" long and the other end is the same as this.

How do I drill a hole into the corner of angle iron?
I've tried everything I could think of; from the inside, the outside, etc, etc... I ALWAYS have the bit grab and then my Milwaukee drill tries to break at least my wrist! Tower legs that use corner holes have caused me some pretty sore limbs and I've made some really ugly holes!

Re: Old style tripod tower clamps
All of that "hardware" is what threw me. Compared to just the "bent wires" of the four post, these seemed complicated. The little bumps and ledges of the castings are subtle but once I caught on, it went ok. The clamps were missing when I bought the tower so when Ebay-mail came, ...

Old style tripod tower clamps
I've never worked on a tripod tower before so even these clamps are new to me....Did I do this correctly? I'm guessing when I say, "It looks like the bump on the casting sits in the tower corner hole and the little ledge on the casting sits on the corner of the tower leg". I also guessed w...

Re: My "new" tools for angle-iron straightening
Holy Cow, Ron! I'm fooling around with my glue clamps to get my job done and I'm amazed at the size and scope of the projects you do! The amount of deflection that tube straightening required was remarkable. Most of the time that I am straightening something out, it is on the press. Most of those ti...

My "new" tools for angle-iron straightening
I was thinking about Ron Stauffer's long-handled crescent wrenches and I went to the workshop and grabbed two of my Jorgenson glue clamps....They worked great! They have a big contact area, they're strong, the floating jaw can be adjusted to fit almost any position, and you can adjust the length of ...
