Re: Has anyone taken a wooden tower tank apart for repair?
I love that sawdust idea---It's like the "Stop Leak" for leaking radiators! Just a quick Google look for Romex staples came up with these. If I have to use wider, I'll try to find a wire coat hanger around here and with a couple of bends and hammer-hits, I'll have some custom sized staples...

Re: Has anyone taken a wooden tower tank apart for repair?
Not a bad idea, it would help keep them in place....Do you mean into the end-grain top and bottom? What kind of staples?
I was thinking of using a couple of bicycle tire tubes like bungee straps.....staples would be added protection...

Re: Has anyone taken a wooden tower tank apart for repair?
Right now I'm in that dreamy-eyed stage; "Oh, that shouldn't be too difficult" Ask me in about a month, "how much do you want for that pile of kindling?" (Thanks for the votes of confidence though....)

Re: Has anyone taken a wooden tower tank apart for repair?
I'll be headed to Lowe's for a couple of sheets of 2" foam insulation and several tubes of liquid nails. The tank is 2' at the top and 4' at the bottom so I'll cut and trim two disks those sizes to fit somewhat tightly inside the tank. With the rest of the foam board (the part with the holes) I...

Has anyone taken a wooden tower tank apart for repair?
I'm hoping to get started on my tank by the end of May so I thought I'd ask now if anyone would like to share their knowledge/experience. As you can see in my photos, The bottom has a portion that is missing and it looks to me like I'd have to take the tank apart in order to replace those boards. I ...

Re: Anyone hauled a tower on a pontoon boat trailer?
A DEVINE INTERVENTION! A friend with a truck/trailer offered to haul it for the gas money! WAHOO! A beautiful day and it all went smoothly! On the way home we went through a little four-building town and there stood this tower and mill to inspire me....My new tower has been plopped in the driveway f...

Re: Anyone hauled a tower on a pontoon boat trailer?
I forgot to measure the width of the foot of the tower so I'll have to do that before I dream too far ahead. A friend suggested a variation of your method: He and I talked about renting a trailer with sides and a front so the tower could be captured and not move side to side. The front could support...

Anyone hauled a tower on a pontoon boat trailer?
I went out to measure what the owner said was a "three legged tower" and it was the first time I have seen a trussed tripod in person----it didn't take me long to fall in love with it and now it's mine to figure out how to get it home (a 60 mile trip).I figure that I can either take it apa...

Re: My new "tower-brace-rod-straightener"
Mike,
Check out Youtube for vids on homemade automotive gas-line straighteners. There are a lot of good ideas.
Nice restoration on your press! Did you rebuild the hydraulics? Where can I buy parts to rebuild mine?
