Re: tower with "sloping" legs...

Thanks for the input. It's interesting to see the stub towers and also to think about the come-along approach. "Sway" is a good word trying to describe the curve in the legs. I had wondered how it was done because I can't imagine how it would be sent from the factory in a boxcar. I had tho...

Duplex counterweight or another brand?

I went to college in Superior Wis. and during a couple of summers, I took a bunch of Duplex machines off towers with the idea that I would have one up and running. I fully restored the machinery on one but could never figure out how to build the wood fans. So, when a steel Andrew came along, that wa...

Is this a Duplex factory tower?

I took screen shots of a u-tube of a Duplex machine on the tower and since I'm shopping for one or even thinking of fabricating one, I'm looking closely at how they were made. Is this a Duplex factory tower? Does that stub-tower come all of the way down to where the angle changes color to more silve...

Re: My B-702 is up and running

I know the least about towers and who made them. It has always been what's available? What started the trouble was meeting someone at a garage sale and he had a crashed Baker L. Before the storm hit his place, it looked like his photo and after the storm, it was a broken up mess. So, I bought it all...

Re: My B-702 is up and running

(TOWER #2) I hired it done! My wife said that now I'm 70, I should stop acting like a 60 year old! I had the tower delivered to the back yard where I fitted the stub tower and replaced the diagonal braces. I hired three young concrete workers that put up Aermotors in their spare time and they tempor...

Re: My B-702 is up and running

(TOWER #1)A friend with a flatbed hauled the tower to my front yard and I used a wheelbarrow and coaster wagon to bring it down the sidewalk. I used a portable electric winch with 1,000 pound capacity to tip it upright. I carefully "walked" and suspended the top up an industrial step ladde...

Re: tower with "sloping" legs...

Wayne, I'll be very interested to see a photo of your stub-tower. Your explanation is very helpful. The 'kink" you put into the angle would start the curve and the longer legs could be spread even more with lengthened horizontal braces. (I'm guessing it is 1/8" material) I was wondering ho...

Re: tower with "sloping" legs...

Well, I went through my shoe boxes of photos from the 70's and found a photo of my old tower when it was in place about 1916. It was taken in Wisconsin about 40 miles from the Duplex factory. I'm working on a Duplex right now and have been looking around for a tower/tower top about 20'. (I sold that...

tower with "sloping" legs...

Years ago, I bought an approximately 20' tower with legs that were intentionally "sloped/bell-shaped". It came from the Duplex Mfg. Co. in Superior Wis. that way and I'd like to build one, since I sold the original. It had a gradual curve that was a real pleasure to look at and would have ...

Re: My B-702 is up and running

I forgot to show the "Before" pictures as found on Craigslist. I went to bed thinking I didn't need an Aermotor 8' and I woke up wide-eyed in the middle of the night when I remembered a "B" model is a 10' . It was in such great shape when I saw it that I didn't even look under th...
