Re: Lightning protection
I worked for a friend that was in the wind electric business in the 1930's and he inspected a big Jacobs that had been struck. He said a hole was blown through the end-bell cover that was close to the diameter of the generator! (About 12")

Re: My B-702 is up and running
Thanks for the tip about mounting the spring, something didn't seem quite right about the way I did it. I also realized that 40 pound bucket of water hooked to the pump rod wouldn't do much but it might be fun to watch for awhile. And also, thanks for the compliments on my green thumb. I do have to ...

Re: Lightning protection
There's no doubt, that when towers are erected using the "packed" earth/rock/gravel method, the electrical connection should be very good. I wondered if surrounding the feet with concrete would be a "bad" connection, kind of big resistors. Years ago, I worked with a prof. at U of...

Lightning protection
Is anyone concerned about lightning damage? (I suppose it would be easy enough for me to drive a ground rod and connect the tower to it.)

My B-702 is up and running
I still need to mount my platform and do some painting to the pump and pump-jack but it will be done soon. It's been running smoothly 24 hours a day for 2+weeks now. We live in town and the neighbors all love it! (What a relief, since I didn't tell them that I was putting it up!)

Re: Do I Really Need the Pump Rod?
I have the pump rods on all of my spinners. It appears to keep the crossheads running true and oiling properly. Set your furl spring on light tension and it won't easily overspeed. I finished my B-702 and it's been spinning for a couple of weeks now. I'm intending to put a pump rod on it for just t...

Re: B-702 Platform size and tower placement

B-702 Platform size and tower placement
I'm just about finished rebuilding a 20' tower and have finished attaching my 5' Aermotor stub-tower and mast pipe. We are putting it up in the backyard next weekend. I need to make a platform and don't know what size to make it. I don't know who manufactured the tower but the full ladder runs up th...

Re: Upper furl ring question for B-702
Dont get too uptight about it as Aermotor 802 has no angle bracing, just the button head L with a cotter pin holding it on. Ron Stauffer Montrose CO Oh, I'm one of those guys that gets lost in detail like this, and will spend way too much time and money to not make any difference.... always; plenty...

Aermotor Furl Handle or Winch?
When I bought my B-702, this massive winch came with it and the previous owner said that is what his Grandfather had used on this mill. This is going to be an "in-town, garden ornament" and I will want to let it spin as much as possible, but still not run at full speed and scare the neighb...
