Re: Case a "no case" well

I'm embarrassed to report that the well was, in fact, cased with 4" PVC. The cylinder was set in 1989 and the following 33 years have erased all memory of that installation. In 1989 the static water level was 25 feet and after pulling the rod and 2" pipe, the pump contractor sounded the st...

Re: Case a "no case" well

Thanks Guys for sharing your experience and thoughts. I was never going to try and pull the pipe string but wanted to have the knowledge before I hire the folks with the crane. My local guys work pretty exclusively on electric pumps as there are not many working windmills in the area. I might post a...

Re: Case a "no case" well

Thanks Bob. The well bore is 6 inches; 140 feet deep; not sure of the static water level as the pipe is always full to the top. I have decided that I have to pull the pipe string and plunger so we can see what is going on in the well. Im curious where you place the 2" x 20' pipes after they are...

Case a "no case" well

The first well we drilled on the property only showed small amounts of water (2-3 GPM) so we abandoned that well at 140 feet and moved to another spot. Of course, when my wife saw a windmill for sale, she immediately said we could install it over that well. It was the hardest job I have tackled duri...

Your thoughts on windmill cup wear.

The water below my 12 foot Heller Aller Baker mill has a lot of iron. The leathers that I traditionally used would wear out quickly (sometimes in a month). 1 year ago I switched to neoprene cups and the mill was producing very good amounts of water. In May the mill stopped producing water at all. I ...

Re: Pulling the 3/8 inch pump rod

Thanks guys,
Bob, I use clevis pins on my tractors but don't know what a clevis is that applies to securing the pump rod.

Pulling the 3/8 inch pump rod

I'm trying to make pulling the 3/8 inch steel pump rod a one man job. I think there is a tool called a "pipe dog" that allows the pipe to slide up but stops it from falling back down into the pipe. I see that there are pipe dogs online that handle 3/4 inch- 2 1/2 inch steel pipe but I don'...

Re: plunger cup leathers

The well below my windmill has a lot of sand and iron. I was losing leathers within a month or so. I bought some neoprene "leathers" and they are working very well. I purchased them from Neal at Windmill-Parts.com. Great info and service.

Re: Expected Leather Wear

Since my rod-pulling-helper (my son Kon) is busy for a few weeks, I had time to read and reread all of your appreciated advice and decided to think outside of the box. As I had left the top of the 2" drop pipe open, I had room to ease a 1/2 inch garden hose with a stream nozzle attached down ne...

Re: Expected Leather Wear

Wow! What a fantastic display. I'm going to think about this for a couple of days and try to develop a course of action that omits pulling the pipe/cylinder.
Byron and Ron, I appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge and experience.
