Question? Why would the Babbitt be different between an open gear and a oil bath mill. Is it because the Babbitt on a open gear is more exposed to the weather ?

Kim thank you for that information about your dad starting the Axtel windmill co. You make two people now on this forum who's relative started a windmill co. Jim Corcoran is another who just aquired a family windmill of his own!!

Usually those plugs are standard pipe thread on windmill gear boxes.

I have a tub with diesel fuel and kerosene mixed and let the gear box sit in that for about a week.

That 602 is in pretty good condition on what looks like a challenge tower.

Another option is use 5/4 x 6 in treated decking.

Can you make new L bolts? Or use ruff cut lumber that's what I usually do.
