Re: Freeman Clipper 6' windmill

I couldn’t tell the original color, I couldn’t find anything to really tell me. There was some black so I just went with that thinking it wouldn’t show leaking grease. I cut a stencil on a machine at work for the letters (same words but not necessarily exactly the same font/size). The casting was al...

Re: Freeman Clipper 6' windmill

I finished it! Thank you so much for all the advice here; I couldn’t have done it without it! I used a bronze bushing in the rear and poured a Babbitt bearing in front to accommodate the necked down shaft. I made aluminum covers for the oil reservoirs and am using 00 corn picker grease in them. We p...

Re: Grease or Oil Type

Thanks for the feedback. I built little covers for them. I was once suggested to pack the area with a long course fiber (something like wool or horse hair), then fill them with a heavier oil with the thought that it weeps it in slower. What are you thoughts on that? If yes, would a 90W gear oil work?

Grease or Oil Type

I could use advice, I’m starting to see light at the end of the tunnel on my windmill project. When I’m done; what type of oil (or grease?) should go into these reservoirs? My apologies if I am using the wrong word! Note I will make covers for these.

Re: Freeman Clipper 6' windmill

I have made some progress, but now have a few more questions. Again, I'm new at this so please be patient with me... First, I got some extra steel to bolt onto them and bury underground. I bolted and welded on 10" feet at the bottom (see attached file). I intend to dig approx 48" deep hole...

Re: Freeman Clipper 6' windmill

Thanks for the input, I’ve been also thinking about how to prevent the oil lite bearing from spinning. Next rainy day I’ll take the shaft out and see what I have got and post an update. I’m curious if anyone knows the original colors for the freeman clipper? The version I have the head is black and ...

Freeman Clipper 6' windmill

I recently purchased a Freeman Clipper 6' windmill from the Ralph Weibusch estate. This is my first windmill and I am on a steep learning curve. I got the head off and onto a cart at home and now have so many questions. 1. The windmill seems overall in nice shape but the bearings are bad and would n...
