Re: Another one hanging by a thread
I figure the motor is probably in pretty good shape. Hanging upside down, it's not full of water!

Another one hanging by a thread
Here's another one hanging by a thread. I thought it was either a Runs in Oil Giant, Monkey Ward Windmaster or Fairbanks Morse 37. The guy who lowered my Heller Aller said he had been on the tower and it was a 37. I contacted the owner to perhaps purchase it and she said she was going to have it ...

Re: Star 24 Rebuild
I rebuilt one a few years ago. Getting older and some memories are hard to come by, but I'll help answer if I can. The pumps are simple, a tube with a check ball. Brakes seem to be optional, my F&W guru said he doesn't even put them back on. (I did, because I wanted it original.) Heller Aller never ...

Re: New project dempster 12
Are the correct Timken #s 1931 for the cup and 1985 for the cone? I have an acquaintance who outbid me at an auction last year on either a 12 or 12a. I can't remember. Turns out, he and one other guy were willing to spend double what I was. Wheel and vane were in fantastic shape, snout was pretty ...

Re: Gin Poles for Raising Motors on Top of Towers
I know I should have used a brake winch, but I just used an old boat winch I had laying around. Just had to be careful. I really didn't know if the whole setup was going to work. Was hesitant to fork out the dough until I knew for sure. Next time I use it, I'll get a brake winch. I was happy with ...

Re: Gin Poles for Raising Motors on Top of Towers
First off, hello to everyone who hasn't been to the introductions page. You can see my story there. When I erected my HA in 2016, I scoured the internet for a week trying to find specs or good pictures of a gin pole. I found nothing, so I designed one myself. Better pictures in this thread than ...

Re: Happy to be a member!
Ok, I remember now. It was only shown in the literature as the back geared run in oil engine. I'm sure I read somewhere, it was HA's first oil bath mill. It also had oiling problems and damaged their reputation. They must be pretty rare because Pat didn't believe that was what I had.

Happy to be a member!
Hello to all! I was given an eight foot F&W 24 in 2014, the wheel was in great shape, but the back of the motor casting was broke and gone and it had no tail. Through the old forum, I found JK Windmills and my wife and I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with him procuring needed parts and a ...
