got the main shaft free. just kept adding penetrating oil and tapping the hub lightly. The plug was at the top so I just kept adding oil and working it back and forth. Surprisingly the hub now spins real easy. now for the restoration and assembly. Moving the tower 10 miles this weekend to its new ...

hey Byron I live in Perry Georgia and plan to drive over to take a look at the tower in Hawkinsville. I just purchased a mill just outside the city of Perry that has a water tank (falling apart) on the tower. Sure want to put it back original while doing the restoration Are you close to Perry ...

thanks all for the tips. Everything that has been mentioned will help as this is my first rebuild. Still a lot to learn and get done but reading through these forums is a huge help. will surely have more questions in the following days...

thanks Joe for the help. I do see the split ends and will give them a slight bend to get the arms out. The old mill is in good shape and I hate to do much bending and twisting if I can keep from it. Now to getting the main shaft from being frozen. Iv'e been soaking it with PB blaster for a few days ...

frozen main shaft

in trying to get to the main hub I removed the wheel assy. Want to remove the wheel arms but with them being a V shape and having a support brace close to the outer ring I don"t see how to get them separate from the hub. I'm new to windmill restoration and may be overlooking something simple ???
