Re: Unidentified windmills
Yes,KRB thinks he has the pictures stored and is looking for them. J remember one of the mills had part numbers which started with a letter. Nobody had seen part numbers like this before. If the numbers began with the letter G, I think I might have an idea what one of the mills could be. Thamks,Ron

Unidentified windmills
Approximately 8-10 years ago, someone posted a picture of two mills that nobody could identify. I believe they were in Kansas somewhere. Can anyone on this site retrieve those photos? I may have some info on one of the mills. Thanks, Ron

Re: Looking for help in Colorado
Jason, does the county have any paperwork on who installed or restored this mill? The Emick family from Lamar,Colorado may have had a hand in this. They would be a good place to start. Hope this might help. Ron

Re: Pumping water for the railroad
Here in Northeast Colorado, when the railroad came through in 1887. the townsites were layed out every 9-10 miles. That was as far as the locos could safely go without a water stop. At least one railroad Eclipse off this rail line is now at Pioneer Village. There is an interesting story of a water ...

Re: Please ID Lubbock head
KRB, that main casting is shaped just like the Leader casting pictured in the parts list. The 14 foot mill carried C1L as casting number. Are you sure that the O isn't a C. The Leaders are the only mills that had the letter L on castings that I've seen. Hope this helps,Ron

Re: Odd Challenge DS
First of all,I want to thank Linda and Les Jacox for the excellent pictures and information. I haven't found out much new information as I am awaiting the parts list in the mail. I've done some examination of the two mills. I'm sure the smaller mill is a wooden wheel Challenge direct stroke mill ...

Re: Odd Challenge DS
I saw a Challenge Steel mill a few years ago with the side vain, but It was internal geared if I remember right. I need to call the seller and ask how he knew they were Challenge mills. They probably came out of the Nebraska sandhills.'

Re: Odd Challenge DS
KRB, I bought both of these mills. They are different sizes but basicly the same mills.I think the bigger mill is 12 foot and has 2000 series part numbers. The smaller mill I believe is a wood wheeled mill with 1000 part numbers. The small mill does not have the brake mechanism. Both mills had side ...

Re: windmill pliers????
Windy, your design is flawed. That tool could not possibly fall all the way to the ground when accidently dropped off platform. It also needs smaller moving parts which could easily go down the casing. Without these capabilities, it just would not fit into our protocol for screwing things up while ...
