Re: Please ID Lubbock head

KRB, that main casting is shaped just like the Leader casting pictured in the parts list. The 14 foot mill carried C1L as casting number. Are you sure that the O isn't a C. The Leaders are the only mills that had the letter L on castings that I've seen. Hope this helps,Ron

Re: Odd Challenge DS

First of all,I want to thank Linda and Les Jacox for the excellent pictures and information. I haven't found out much new information as I am awaiting the parts list in the mail. I've done some examination of the two mills. I'm sure the smaller mill is a wooden wheel Challenge direct stroke mill wit...

Re: Odd Challenge DS

I saw a Challenge Steel mill a few years ago with the side vain, but It was internal geared if I remember right. I need to call the seller and ask how he knew they were Challenge mills. They probably came out of the Nebraska sandhills.'

Re: Odd Challenge DS

KRB, I bought both of these mills. They are different sizes but basicly the same mills.I think the bigger mill is 12 foot and has 2000 series part numbers. The smaller mill I believe is a wood wheeled mill with 1000 part numbers. The small mill does not have the brake mechanism. Both mills had side ...

Re: windmill pliers????

Windy, your design is flawed. That tool could not possibly fall all the way to the ground when accidently dropped off platform. It also needs smaller moving parts which could easily go down the casing. Without these capabilities, it just would not fit into our protocol for screwing things up while p...

That is a patented "Never Stall" windmill pliers. Advertised as 15 tools in one tool. Very hard to find.

Re: power mill

Joe, I have dabbled in windmills and antique cars for about 40 years. I am no expert, but I think the rear end housing is out of a 28-30 Chev truck. The brake setup is similar and the on those earlier axles, the axle shaft was keyed. Google photos oo those years housings and see what you find. Just ...

Re: Early Fairbury mill

Dave,I have a 1925 Fairbury "Blue Book" which shows all of their products. They list a No 7 Super-Oiled which has wood pitmans listed in the parts list. It appears somewhat different from the 7AA. Hope this helps.
