Re: Dempster 6ft No 12 rebuild
Success! I was able to remove the main shaft. I drilled a small hole into the key in the hub and then tapped a few threads in it. Then I screwed a sheet metal screw into the key. I was able to pull the key out with a hammer claw on that screw. Then, I used a piece of wood to wedge into the hub and ...

Re: Dempster 6ft No 12 rebuild
One of the cool things about this project is that my son is really interested and has been helping me every step of the way! He is standing off to the side in one of the pics.

Re: Dempster 6ft No 12 rebuild
Well, no dice. I got the set screw out, rear gear off, and un-bolted the front plate. I don't have access to any good Oak trees. So, I tried pulling the main shaft out with my tractor and F150. If you are interested, who wins, John Deere or F150 with a windmill case between the two, ... F150. The ...

Re: Dempster 6ft No 12 rebuild
Ron, by the way. The mill actually comes out of North Dakota, not local.

Re: Dempster 6ft No 12 rebuild
Well, I had some success today, but still have one problem. I got the gears and pitman arms out, but I can't seem to get the main shaft out. The key is really stuck. WIndybob, I haven't tried the wedge yet because I am afraid of breaking the hub. I can use a crowbar and get the main shaft to slide ...

Re: Dempster 6ft No 12 rebuild
Windybob, there is definitely a key in there. Looks to be broke off if it’s supposed to be three inches. You can sort of see it in this pic. I was able to get the cross tie off of the two guide rods. At my son’s afternoon activities now but will try removing the rod this evening. Soaking the nut in ...

Dempster 6ft No 12 rebuild
I started the tear down of my Dempster 6ft No 12 mill today, and I have three initial questions.
1. How do I remove the Wheel Spider from the Main shaft? I see a Key but am not sure how to remove it.
2. The bumper arm (not sure what it called, see attached pics) seems to be worn thin. It is ...

Re: Greetings from Colorado
windybob, thanks for the info. I will definitely search Dempster and read anything you have written about them on this forum. I am very mechanically inclined so am not too scared of tackling this. So, if I get pics of the front hubs and inside the rear hub (Spider) could we pin down a decade that it ...

Re: Greetings from Colorado
CTXmiller, so Dempster is the manufacture? And Baker is the style of tower? I am completely new to windmills but learning quickly.

Greetings from Colorado
All,
Thank you for accepting me into this forum. I live in Colorado on a small hobby farm. I recently acquired an old windmill. I have attached pictures of it in the field were I got it from. I am going to restore it and put it up on my farm. I looks to be in pretty good shape and mostly all there ...
