Surprise find at my great grandfather's old home in Texas

So I'm back from short visit to Austin, Texas to see grandson graduate from grad school. Made it to Dublin to see the beautiful home my great grandfather had built in 1895. No time for anything else windmill. Home needs a lot of help now, but has new owners. Behind what must have been the stone wate...

Re: Windmill attractions around Texas: Dublin, Comanche, Austin?

Thanks, guys! Mike, I'd love to take you up on your personal offer, but I'm not seeing the other 5 of us talking about any run south of Austin. We will be flying down next Thursday, (Ugh), and GSon's graduation is Friday. So we only have Sat, (Dublin), and Sunday - then fly back north Monday. My dau...

Windmill attractions around Texas: Dublin, Comanche, Austin?

I expect to attend my grandson's University graduation in Austin, Texas, April 19th. Will be in Austin 4 days, but riding with daughter, etc., so time will be limited. Plan to see my Great Grandfather's home in Dublin, and drive around some. Anything I ought to know about windmills in the region? Th...

Re: What were factory colors on a Samson Oil Rite Model S??

Thanks. My main gear case has cast Stover markings. No idea if their, "Champion," brand would be so marked. Side note, and perhaps better on a new topic post, there is a milled, "flat," on the main case snout that is stamped with what I might guess to be a serial number. (See pho...

Re: What were factory colors on a Samson Oil Rite Model S??

Fooey. Now I remember something about that. I suppose I'll do black then. Just unexciting. It'll match the black lettering on the vane though !
Thanks, Dennis

What were factory colors on a Samson Oil Rite Model S??

Guess that says it. I have no idea what color Samson Oil Rite S's were painted. Vane lettering appears to be black, for whatever that's worth.
Anyone know?
Thanks, Dennis

Re: FM Eclipse found today. Model? Worth getting?

I knew from the beginning that I'd need to figure on this taking a long time. And encouragements here to continue, "patience," was certainly timely. I've been trying to, "un-stick," this 45 and get it turning over since last December. No luck Yesterday, Hugh, my experienced windm...

Re: Washing Soda electrolysis rust removal: will it hurt Babbitt?

Thanks, Windy. No, this is on the brand new, (NOS), FM 45 I found last winter. So the Babbitt Bearing is perfect at this point. Worst case, I just clean up the cast saddle with wire brushes. Not a big deal either really.

Washing Soda electrolysis rust removal: will it hurt Babbitt?

That says it. I've always had good luck with the battery charger/washing soda/water solution for removing rust. Am doing it now with excellent success on my FM 45 mill parts. Next up is the sliding saddle that has poured Babbitt bearings. I cannot imagine a small electrical current through a washing...
