Re: Vane

They must have sold every brand at one time or the other elgin is not very common around here at all. I do know that later on Samsco sold many of the model 24 star mills in the area as well as Fairbury. The 14' 7AA my grandfather installed in the 50's here at my house was sold through them.

Re: Vane

I was visiting with Jim Collums earlier this year. And we spoke breifly about that old book that was published by F.F. Collins Company in San Antonio. The F.F Collins Company was a dealer for both Eclipse and Star windmills. Apparently Krueger Machinery later on Samsco bought out F.F. Collins ...

Re: Lordsburg, NM

I bet pulling the well under that mill was quite a chore probably took many mules tied together to pull the pipe and rods. Re: Samson steel

The Boerne area had a handful of big Samsons. One ranch we worked on west of Boerne had the tailbone and vane sheet for an 18' Samson at a well. I'm not sure if the big samson next to the Walmart is still there or its been moved but that was at least a16' mill.

Re: Rods for welding cast iron

Windys tailpin trick is what we always did that way you didn't have to grind so much and you can gauge it at the same time. You can also cut up the old tailpin to fill in the holes.

Re: 20’ Samson Model S

Hope everything coming along well on your big project. Here is a pic of the lettering on my tail bone. Tailbone with casting is

21' long tall side of vane sheet is 8'5". The lettering would be located near the end of the tail on top of the angle.

Re: Drilling a Well

Finally got those pictures scanned and downloaded. To my knowledge these photos came out of the Krueger family estate. Their Family owned SAMSCO san antonio machine and supply. The horse power could be used to power a drilling rig or pump water with as shown.
