Tail Pin.
I’m getting ready to make a new tail pin for a a602 I’ve got some 3/4” round rod some hardened and some regular mild steel laying around. Are these pins hardened from factor or is mild steel ok. Thoughts on both The Hardened pin might not wear as much, but instead wear the pin holes in the case more ...

Pouring Babbitt 602
Noticed tonight on a 602 As I was melting the Babbitt out, the pour hole for the rear bearing was on the inside of the case. On other 602s I’ve dealt with the pour hole has been on the outside of the case. I’m guessing the changes were for ease of pouring? (. Yes No) Anyone know? It’s kinda tight ...

Re: Standing up a windmill
Thanks for the input. Sounds like I’m going to be better off getting a lift to pick it instead up using the tractor. I kinda thought this was the route I’d have to go. The towers gonna end up being a little heavier then before also all’s I could come up with is 3x3x3/16” angle that stub was all ...

Re: Standing up a windmill
if I have to set the motor with a lift might as well set the tower with it also. Just wasn’t sure about raising it as one. I used to hang iron for a living so it’s not as if I don’t know how to get the tower up just wanting some advice on one pick or 2

Standing up a windmill
What’s your all’s take on how big of A completely assembled windmill can be pulled up using a cable over a gin pole. I’ve got a 12’ that will be on a 3 post tower I plan to put up within the next year just seeing if I’d need to rent a skytrac or if it’s doable with our tractors and cables.

Re: Babbitt.
There’s some grade 1 and grade 2 stuff that’s got 80-90% tin in it and very low percentages of lead In it

Re: Babbitt.
Thanks for all the feed back. I’ve been doing a little searching on the old google also. Turns out the tin based Babbitt is for high speeds with larger loads and the lead based is for lower speeds and less weight. Guess I’ll go with the lead. It’s also cheaper then the tin based

Babbitt.
What Type or grade Babbitt do you all normally use when re pouring bearings. I see there’s all different grades pertaining to tin based or lead based.

Re: Windmill Anchors
I was thinking if I took Angle iron and went from leg to leg at the bottom of the tower were it’s sitting on a horizontal angle rather then 4 individual points that would help put also. I’m in the Kansas City area so 4’ gets well below the frost line.
