Re: Rebuilding Dempster 10 ft no 12
Okay it is time to put it back together. I installed a new bearing race in the casting and now i need to know the best way to put it all back together. Do I install the shaft first in the case with the small gears and work my way out towards where the braking system is , or do I press the hub back ...

Re: Rebuilding Dempster 10 ft no 12
So you leave them attached when you bend them or remove first?

Re: Rebuilding Dempster 10 ft no 12
It has been a minute but I just got some parts in and I am starting the next phase. I have to bend back my sail supports which means cutting off the rivets. Recommendation on what to use to replace the rivets with?

Dempster 1207b swing arm
Folks I am looking for a Dempster swing arm part number 1207b. It fits the 10 and 12 foot no12 motors. I have tried eBay and Dan with no luck.

Another quick question on the braking system. How do you treat the metal “shoe” and drum area. I have read that sometimes the shoe rusts to the drum if not in use. If I prime and paint it might help for a couple years

Re: Rebuilding Dempster 10 ft no 12
While waiting for parts from Dan, I started the cleaning and priming process. I have a question about the oil trough that leads from the main body to the snout. The casting is really rough and I was wondering if it should be smooth so the oil runs up to the bearing?

Re: Rebuilding Dempster 10 ft no 12
While waiting for parts, I tried my hand at straightening my bent tower. I used a 4 foot long 3/8 angle iron and sandwiched my tower between that and a smaller piece of angle and pressed the angle flat. Then I heated the metal and pounded on the old bent area to shrink the angle back into shape

I have watched some videos on welding cast iron but what do you recommend to do ? Brazing doesn’t look very good? Would you tig or mig or stick weld?

Re: Rebuilding Dempster 10 ft no 12
Last piece to break free and I broke it. Now I am looking for a new used swing arm bracket. The photo shows the part number. My mistake was after heating the tail pin I should have made sure the arm was free of the pin instead of just trying to press the pin out. I was using a brass punch and had ...

Re: Rebuilding Dempster 10 ft no 12
Next question is the swing arm that connects the tail to the case. I want to try to remove it so I can prime and paint. It was rusted in position but I was able to free it up so it now moves. Any tricks to removing it or are the risks high you can break one of the tabs off the case?
