I have made several sets of these in the past with pipe plug and welding on the profiled heavy metal strap. After grinding the welds and blending into correct profile go ever it with a needle scaler. Little rust and you cannot tell it isn’t a hundred years old and original.
That being said ...

Re: Wood bearings
I have made them out of hard maple for mills as well as other vintage restorations. Interesting thing is when you insert the bearings in hot oil you have to weight them down as they want to float. At first. As millions of micro bubbles flow from the grain almost causing a froth in the hot oil and as ...

Re: Different Windmill Raising/ Tear Down Techniques
Great pics! Lots of fun to study the snippets of past times they capture. This one puzzles me. Did Ottawa make a power mill? I see something coming down almost to ground level from the head and first pic has no indication of a well. Appears to be undisturbed sod. Doubt they stood up a mill on the ...

Re: juds jig
More than welcome and thanks to all for compliments. I have learned so much from the combined "brain trust" of those on the old site and now the new. Wouldn't say it would be impossible but much more difficult without these resources (people) and a site to share it on.
Thanks again all

Re: Currie sail refurbish
Yea I kept center line centered when rolling. I clamped each corner to mandrel while forming also. I was lazy or would have made die's for bead roller and might have been much better.

Re: Currie sail refurbish
The small end radius was giving me forming issues on some of the sails and as the small end lip was seldom damaged due to tighter radius thus more rigid structure I quit hammering out the small lip before rolling. I modified my slip roll to accept the lip on end of roll and run them through and only ...
