When that main frame was cast that is where the sprue was located for the hole to pour the metal.It is rough because they generally break the excess metal off and do not go to the trouble to grind it smooth. My 10 foot spring a leak there because a air bubble formed there when the metal was poured. ...

Jim, make you some. They are regular pipe thread. Run your threader up on the pipe until about i inch of pipe is sticking out of the threader.(Makes a straight thread) Weld in a piece of flat iron and you are good to go.

Glue the two halves together with brown grocery sack and Elmers glue. I also use a clamp if possible and a spade bit. Drill the hole and then separate the two halves and sand the paper off. I do not remember where I got it or where it went when I sold it but, it was painted silver even under the bolt heads.

You might see if there if a local or close by bill board (sign) company that will take your motor down. I found that they were a whole lot cheaper.You would have to give them good instructions.

Caution! A Challenge 27 is very similar but will not fit Dempster.Challenge has a lock ring to hold two halves of bearing races together.

Yes! The only thing that is impractical to paint with either the primer or top coat is the screw holes when assembling the wheel sections.
