Re: Monitor WB question
On yours, that was obviously an issue. That's why I started out with if his was an original monitor tower. An original would most likely have the storm stay properly mounted. You did good by spotting that. It's worth checking along with the other things. You never know! I remember Roger cutting the ...

Re: Monitor WB question
If it's an original Monitor tower for that mill, then double check the items up top. There is a wrong way and a right way to hook up the 'Latch" , even though it will work both ways. Make sure you chain is hooked to the brass swivel in the tower as high up as possible. This is easy to do by ope...

Re: Flint & Walling working barrel rebuild
I would heat them and take the end caps off. Some of those load all the innards from the top.Sometimes the bottom check has a leather cup that seals to the cylinder and threads to lock in the lower check. I don't see anyway to hurt the cylinder if you heat the end caps a bit to swell them, and help ...

Re: twisted wire tower braces
Stover twisted wires have a slightly smaller loop for the eccentric, as are the eccentrics smaller than Dempster. I have many Dempster tower wires of differring lengths. Joe, sounds like you are perfectly capable of twisting up what you need. To answer your question, years ago there was a person who...

Re: Flint & Walling working barrel rebuild
hold one end in a chain vice, and see if the other end loosens. I would hold the top, and try to unscrew the bottom. The reason is, if you get the bottom off, you can lightly hold the barrel and heat the top and maybe loosen it. If you heat the bottom, and it has anything other than brass in it, the...

Re: I "don't need to take pictures!"....
In a regular #12, the gears in backwards make the head lock up when you try to rotate it. Plus the pitmans push straight up on the crosshead, not push sideways. The independant gears are a good idea in my book. Allows for a little play. When companies come out with a particular model, it seems that ...
