I have never come across anything like that. Most modifications are not so sophisticated.
It is very interesting.

Good idea Paul, us old guys need help remembering who we are sometimes.

I have found “stave” wooden water pipe. Some of it clear redwood.
Stave pipe is very similar to barrels in construction but may have a round metal rod. Google wood stave pipe to see some neat old photos.
