Re: Kevin's b602 project
Kevin, Welcome to the forum. I’d still be inclined to try and find some bull gears as the oiling system is a circulatory system and without the oil circulating, the Babbitt in the snoot will wear even faster. Now if it is going to rotate on the tower and only very rarely even actually spin (i.e., be...

Whatever keeps the elements out (referring to patching the bonnet) or to your preference.

Re: new in Canada
Mike - Thank you. I’ve also seen the “top hat” method where a piece of thin sheet metal is placed on top of the bonnet top, for when a bonnet had rust on its flat top. The thing with JB weld, you can use it on the inside and outside of the bonnet. Then mask your repair efforts with cold galvanizing ...

Re: new in Canada
For the bonnet and bullet holes, you might try JB weld unless you’re good at welding thin metal. I’m sure others will have better recommendations.

Re: Samson S or M: remind me how to tell difference.....
The 8’ and the 9’ are identical in all aspects from my recollection and both having 5 wheel arms. The 10’ goes up to 6 wheel arms.

Re: Samson S or M: remind me how to tell difference.....
I always look at the hub. The S has a bell type up and the M is a smaller type hub. There is also a W that has a bell type hub from my understanding.

Re: A602 Rebuild Project
There is a mast pipe cup washer that sits in the mast pipe cup. I think the part # is 576 and it acts like a thrust washer. No seal. On the top end, there is an umbrella washer and mast pipe nut. No material or liner was used between the steel brake band and cast hub. Your A602 looks to be in great ...

Re: Oil leaking
Check the oil collector #520 (under the plug in the hub when at 12 o’clock) and see if it is clogged up. When it was rebuilt, if the rings on the snoot under the hub were worn down and not welded back up, that can cause oil loss out the hub and onto the brake band, etc.
