Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about windmills, in most cases.

Gear case oil

Post by DavidABarclay »

Good morning from Bulverde Texas.
Onto my next project.
Went to NAPA this morning. The staff recommended this for my gear case. Will this work?

I don't know. But I do know that regular red ATF does. Most of the makers recommended 5 W or less non detergent. I don't know what that oil is. Any oil is better than nothing. Non Detergent lets the dirt fall out of suspension. Detergent holds it in for the filter to catch. That's the difference. The weight is very low so it maintains easy flow, especially at low temps. I also realize that ATF does have detergent. However, I will gladly take that instead of the oil turning to paraffin and jelling up in a few months , therefore wasting the head if it doesn't get checked often.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number.
