The model 28 is the direct stroke oil bath version.

Just for a little more Heller-Aller confusion here's a picture of an 8' Model 25 I have up in my yard...

The Model 25 is back geared just like the Model 8 only a couple of small changes inside the gearbox. The gear box is labeled Model 25. Not sure how many or how long they were made, this is one of only 3 or 4 I've seen or heard of...

They actually did make one that was defective at first, then improved it for the rest of it's production, is what the book mentioned. Maybe that's what you have?

To the best of my knowledge, the model 25 had different bull gear castings than the Model 8, not sure if the pinions were different. I will dig out some catalogs and look into the dates to determine which model was the latest.

Ok guys here is another update. I got the pin holes in the gearbox welded
and was able to re machine them at work. Came out nice. I was also able
to replace the pipe in the bottom end.

I was also able to prep and paint the gearbox. I will let that
paint cure for a few days and then I will reassemble the internals.

Stay tuned for further updates.

You might check your sails, also. Older ones tend to throw them, newer ones have a tab installed to prevent that. Would be tough to see all that nice work, and half the sails get pitched after raising.
