Here is my Star 37 gearbox. I prepped and painted it today.
It will need a 2nd coat of paint one evening this week.
This is to replace a bad gearbox for my 2nd Star 37.

Re: Star 37
It is 8ft. If I had my choice, I would like to have a 5ft.
Very rare animal.

Re: Star 37
Kenneth,
I agree with you I would have like to have found a 5 footer. But I am happy with the my 8 footer and am waiting on a new tail vane sail from Dan B. It's the only thing left I need to get mine up and running. Maybe in the next 4 or 5 weeks or so it will be done. I did recently pick up a 6.5 foot Baker WB just so I'd have a smaller mill to work on. I managed to get it all apart, so now have to start rebuilding it.
Hope things are going well for you and your family. Hopefully when this virus hassle is over we can get together again and talk windmills.
Best regards,
Jim

Hey Jim,
We are well here. Still working, so I guess I am one of the lucky ones
To still have a job. Will be glad when this Corona stuff is over.
We will wait and see what happens.

Re: Star 37
There's one of the five footers in my area i have been admiring for more than thirty years it was pumping water for cattle doesn't appear to be used any longer but visually still in remarkable shape must be tough little mills as this one has weathered some severe storms in southern oklahoma
Re: Star 37
Update. I had a chance to work on this project today.
I removed the internals from the bad gearbox.
This Star 37 came with a Star 12 hub. Someone
At one time had F&W literature showing the Star 12
Hub as an option on the Star 37. Something about
Saving a few dollars by using your Star 12 wheel from
Your older mill. I have yet to find that literature.
Also this Star 37 has what I believe to be Babbitt bearings.
See photos below showing bad gearbox, internals and
Bearings installed.

Re: Star 37
Is that the hub for a Star 12? That's not a 37 hub. It's been a good long time since I had one of those apart. However, I did move 2 from one pile to another yesterday.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number.
Re: Star 37
Yes. It is a Star 12 hub. I edited my previous post.
A Star 12 hub part number is 1882.
This one is 1882 1/2
Not sure how this mill ended up with this configuration.
But this has to be factory.
Notice the flange on the hub for the brake band.
Star 12 part number 1882 hubs did not have that.
They have an internal brake on the bub.
