Windmill Wheel Identification Help

Have a part you can't identify? Did your parts get mixed up in the shop? Curious if that chunk of metal is a part you should keep? Not sure what kind of windmill or tower you have? Post photos of the mystery object here for the community to help identify.

Windmill Wheel Identification Help

Post by donswindmills »

Gentlemen,

This is my first post on this forum. A long time ago, I saw that you guys mentioned my grandpa's passing as one of the old windmillers. His name was Don Cote. I took over Don's Windmills back in 2010, and also own Windmill Ceiling Fans of Texas. I have a customer that has a wheel with no hub, and for the first time, even with the Field Guide to American Windmills, I'm having a hard time figuring out what brand this is. It's an 8', but it has 15 blades. It's located in Midlothian, Texas, which makes me lean toward the Monitor or the Fairbanks Morse. I think I've narrowed it down to:

1) Monitor W Series
2) Ideal Steel (Stover Manufacturing Company)
3) Beatty Pumper (not likely)
4) Fairbanks Morse

Any help would really be appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

James C. McKendree

Not a Monitor. Wrong rotation, and clips not on the front. Long clips resemble Woodmanse or certain F/M wheels. Woodmanse made mills for F/M towards the end of both companies. I think 8 ft Ideal Steel wheels were all 6 section.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number.

Thanks guys- the only reason I didn't consider Dempster is that I've never seen a Dempster wheel without a bead roll at the end. The Beatty Pumper, from what I understood, were rare here in Texas anyway, so that makes sense. Looking closer at the Woodmanse in the manual, that looks like it's the closest. I appreciate it!

I have one section, I think is similar clip-wise to what James posted. This section is hanging in my shop. I never could determine the manufacturer/model either.

I give up tryIng to rotate the photo.
