I know it's a furling crank, can you tell me more?

Have a part you can't identify? Did your parts get mixed up in the shop? Curious if that chunk of metal is a part you should keep? Not sure what kind of windmill or tower you have? Post photos of the mystery object here for the community to help identify.

Looks like the part# might be E90
How do you mount it, odd shape?
Do you know who made it?

Take a piece of angle and see how it fits in the slot. Maybe some 3 legger angle also.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number.

Here's my Flint & Walling winch. It's for a four legged tower. This shows how it mounts to the angle iron so that the spool is on the inside of the tower and the crank on the outside.

Thanks to all!
That is some serious chain, is that what I need to plan on?
This forum is such a great help.
Never would have guessed the crank was on the outside with the spool on the inside.

The chain is twisted link chain you can get at pretty much any hardware or big box store. I just bought a long piece and will cut it down to appropriate length when the mill gets put up.

I was thinking it would be an easy pull. Maybe 3/16 cable.
When is your mill going up.
What kind is it?
I must get mine up in the next 6 weeks to beat the fall rain.

My mill is a Flint & Walling 8 foot Star 37. I plan to put it up in my back yard as a spinner, only using the top 20+ feet of the tower. Hopefully I can get it done in the next few weeks.

The issue I have with many cranks, is that the handle is close to the tower, or on the wrong side, making it a hassle to use. I like your kind Jim.

If a person uses #9 wire, you must use a piece of chain for the spool. Cable is flexible, no chain needed.

I see now, you said wire needs a chain, cable does not, thanks
