Hiram Moore

Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about things in general, in most cases.

Hiram Moore

Post by Wayne »

I always have a book to read while eating breakfast. My book of choice right now is The Grain Harvesters. The story of how we got to the combine. Hiram Moore while living in Kalamazoo Co Mich developed a working combine. For some reason the people in Michigan didn't take to his combine so he moved to Brandon Wisconsin and while there it says he developed a pumping windmill. One of his combines was shipped to California in 1853 and was a big success in 1854 harvested 600 acres of wheat but in the harvest of 1856 because of lack of grease a bearing got hot and set it afire. It's success led to the perfecting of the combine in the wheat fields of California. so after all that my question is have any of you fellows in Mich or Wis heard of the guy or his windmill?

And that patent was issued in 1858 pretty early in the windmill world.
