That coil spring is the oil slinger. It's important that it be in good shape. ( if the winding of the spring wire is 'sharp') if it's worn down flat, I would replace it. Also if it is flat, that means it was dragging on the bottom of the snout flange. When you slide a new bearing in, there should be virtually no clearance between the bottom of the bearing, and the snout when you slide it in. I have welded up a boatload of those snouts that were worn.
Also, you will always find up and down play in a W case Monitor for the hub. That's normal.

Thanks for info . That slinger appears to be still good but will replace it anyway.
