Thanks Wayne.I have some really hard wood that is about 6 inches think.That was my
thought to cut the curvature in it.This wood came from bridge decking and is very very heavy
so won`t move around when pounding things on it.

I like your anvil idea i have used a large vice before and adjustable wrenches but the anvil with slots would be faster.
