Oil stained tower legs.

Post by Merlinn »

Been lurking here for a while. Lotsa good info and help here.
I recently got my A702 up and running. It is leaking oil and running down the tower legs. I need to climb up and find the leak but have had no luck washing off the oil and restoring the galvanized color.
Any ideas of what to use?

I did paint thinner and a rag once, seemed to work pretty good, If your galvanizing is rough, probably need a brush. Wear safety glasses.

I’ll give it a try. I tried acetone but they still stayed dark. If I can’t clean ‘em I will just have to live with dark legs! Yuk!

That oil out of those heads is horrible. It gets on your hands, and the dirt becomes 'heritage' from then on. Clean it up as good as possible , the rain, sun and decades will take care of the rest, unless you paint it with good heavy industrial oil paint.
