Fairbanks Morse Wheel spoke

Post by joe herman »

Does any body have an eight foot FBM worm gear wheel spoke to take measurements from?
I need to make 6 spokes and need to know how long, wide and what configuration it takes.
A photo of one with the dimensions would be appreciated.
They should be simple enough as the hub face is flat and front and rear holes
are lined up.
I plan to use 1/8 by 1 inch flat iron. Primed and painted.
Thanks,
Joe

Ignore the request. I found the spokes. I bought this beat up mill at an auction
13 years ago and had forgotten where all the pieces had been stored. A little more
searching and found them. Kind of thought there had to have been spokes as I remember
the wheel was intact but badly mangled.

Yes is it not fun getting older and having these senior moments?
I was within a foot of those spokes yesterday and did not look behind
a big box of other stuff.
I am getting this mill ready for the fellow that bought the power mill
that I intended to buy last spring. The one that was missing the truck hub.
The owner of that mill gave these people my name so that is how I have
come to get reunited .The young couple managed to find all the sails and wheel
spokes .They could not find the the hub so without that there is not much chance
to get a working unit. By the way there are 6 sections of 4 sails so that is good.
The vane says it is a Flint & Walling so that is also good as earlier this year you may remember
I bought a tower with what appears to have a #12 F&W head. If so maybe I can use power mill
blades on that. Can`t get to the tower until all snow is melted and ground dry.
Thanks for reading.
I am sure this is going to get interesting.
