Have a part you can't identify? Did your parts get mixed up in the shop? Curious if that chunk of metal is a part you should keep? Not sure what kind of windmill or tower you have? Post photos of the mystery object here for the community to help identify.
Might see if you can get ahold of the book "A Field Guide to American WIndmills" by T Lindsey Baker. If you are going to mess with mills, you won't regret it.
That is Flint and Walling's last mill out in 1937. probably ran up until the war. What your looking at is the only wheel (fan) designed and patented in an actual wind tunnel.
It was available in 5 , 7, 8 10, and 15 foot sizes.
I really hope the inside is not too bad. Those things are murder to work on if rusted solid.
Good luck!
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.
Russell , If you want to learn about windmills drive the 96 miles to Ames and take a class !
Yes that's a long drive but well worth the effort. You can get years & years of knowledge in a short time in an amazing environment . There are several F & W motors , parts & lots of F & W parts, and an education on what to do with them.
Just in case it's not common knowledge WindyBob is amazing and willing to share his brain load of stuff and experience.
