Wheel Parts

Have a part you can't identify? Did your parts get mixed up in the shop? Curious if that chunk of metal is a part you should keep? Not sure what kind of windmill or tower you have? Post photos of the mystery object here for the community to help identify.

OK, so it was Kenneth not Jim C. that had this hub (but I am happy I remembered most of it  ).

Whidcatcher, As far as I know the 13 & 15 used the 1882 hub from the Star 12 (have a 13 parts list, but not a 15 parts list to confirm).
Thanks,
Ed

Yeah my Axtell Ever-Oiled is an 11 1/2 FT. Maybe they didn't start out that way during design, but after they got the first one together when they measured it they saw their mistake and realized what they had. Old tractor HP was like that. Some were way to generous with their ratings.

I 100% believe the 1882 1/2 is a transitional hub to allow the use of earlier wheels on the newer mills (like Kenneth's application). I am not aware of any 1/2 foot sizes for F&W mills (at least for the 12, 13, & 15).

The design of the 18X2 hub is very different from the 1882 1/2. The Star 12, 13, & 15 (18X2) had a brake that acted on the internal part of hub (I believe for all sizes), the 1882 1/2 incorporated an external brake (as can be seen in Kenneth's photos).

For comparison, here is the backside of an 1882 on a a Star 12:

And the brake being activated (still need to make the rod):

The 1882-1/2 was also used on the Star 24. I believe the dealer could order the gearbox with it for a customer that was upgrading an older mill like the 12,13 or 15, so they could reuse their wheel and arms. I have a 4 section, 6’ model 24 with this style hub and a model 12 wheel.
