High maintenance.... I have never been tempted by wooden windmills....
In 20 years, you'll be lamenting replacing the wood when you could be putting together several more metal ones...
So what would I need to load in the truck for barter for that special something you have?

Ron, You are right on about that. Replacing the wood is easy, it's all that dad blasted painting that gets to me.

It's going to be inside so not too worried about it rotting away on me.
I don't know, what do you have? I wouldn't mind a BIG mill even if it would cost me extra.

Re: Goold Shapley & Muir Power Mill
I finished the second 14ft Ideal Power mill, it's now also in the barn with the other one. This one was manufactured in 1897, it has seven spokes and has brass bearings. The first one was manufactured in 1899 and has roller bearings. They were a lot of work to rebuild but I'm happy with the way they turned out. I opened up more of the barn to make room for them.
sorry, don't know why they all turned sideways

Awesome! People ask me if my windmills do anything. I tell them no they are retired after 40 or so years do something. All they do today is just look pretty. Yours certainly are doing their part. They are looking pretty.
