Windmill Break clarification with pic
Need clarification from the pros. Dempster windmill. Brake chain is good at the head. My chain/cable from the ground will attach here, correct?

What you are showing with the string attached is the pump rod not the vane control.
Re: Windmill Break clarification with pic
Thank you. Could all the twisted wire in the first pick be from the storm stay used to close the vein?
Re: Windmill Break clarification with pic
The twisted wire appears to be the "fix" for the end of the pullout tube being worn off. As you can see the end has a piece welded on and the swivel stays above it. The pullout wire attaches to the pullout tube swivel. That lets the head and pullout tube turn when the wind changes, and the swivel stays put, and does not spin. The bar on the swivel goes between tower girts to keep from spinning. The girts need to be far enough apart vertically so that when you pull the brake lever, the tube and swivel pull down to shut it off. The downforce on the end of the tube is what wears the Attachment off at the end of the tube. The neckpipe picture I posted shows the groove in the bushing in the end of the pipe for the flat bar on the pullout tube to ride in. The holes in the swivel are where the pull wire goes. The string in your picture is the second swivel, the pumprod swivel. Your wood pole to the well goes there. That part is a swivel and MUST be free operating. Those get bound up all the time. Grease, oil or otherwise lube it and make sure it swivels freely. It's as important to do , as putting milk on your post toasties.
