Bell Hub bearing pour

Finally got around to pouring the babbitt bearings in my transition Bell Hub.Went better than I expected a good solid pour on both snouts.main shaft was a 15 inch and bull gear 8 inch straight pour. Good time for a Guinness.

That's what I do if the mill is for show, not for work. No one will ever know I didn't leave the oil ports. ( unless i tell them) ;)

Making some progress on my Bell Hub been busy building my barn time to take a break from that.Now the bearings are done on the two shafts the pitman bearings are next I'd say there in bad shape.

Dan , isn't that interesting the oil reservoirs for each bearing ?
When I poured the pitman arm bearing on the Ideal Steel I carved a small wooden block to keep the oil slot open .

Mike on my other bell hub the oil reservoirs are threaded with plugs. This one isn't it just had wooden plugs it's very early

Well I decided to pour the bearings on the pitman shaft today it's too cold and windy to work on the barn they came out pretty good.

perfect day to fire up the propane fire stove for melting babbitt ,
your right , the pours looks good & clean , nice job .
Usually takes longer to make the fixture than to pour molten metal .
