This is one my friend has. It's a little 6 footer. Nice mill. Is yours a 6?

I worked on the Steel Star today. Made a little progress. First, I removed the pinion gear from the
shaft. And just as a note, (I already knew this) the gear is threaded and threads on to the shaft.
And, that is a left hand thread.

Then I decided to remove the shaft from the bull gear.
This needs to be pressed outward toward the front of the gear.
That has a tapered key. Otherwise, you will break your gear.

I mentioned yesterday a few interesting things. When I
pressure washed the main frame, a half round brass piece
came out. You can see in my pic where it was. Anyone
Seen this before?

Another thing I found interesting, the 2 bolts on the pump rod have a key of sorts
on the taper. Then the countersunk holes have a notch to receive that. Allowing
you to tighten the nut, without it spinning. See pics.

My Father said he has seen these on old equipment and such.

My Butler Double Gear’s pump rod has the same key of sorts with countersunk on one side like that.

The half round brass piece like a bushing found in a Baker W series or like in an open gear Baker?

Yes. The half round bronze is like the Bakers.
This mill has Babbitt bearings so I'm a little
confused on that.
