Aermotor Pumps
Aermotor Pumps
We have had discussions about why we don't see many Aermotor pumps when the windmill was sold in such great quantities. While setting in my chair watching the Hummingbirds come to the feeder. I came upon this thought as to why. By the way Hummingbirds aren't born with the knowledge of how to eat from a feeder. I have one, maybe more than one who didn't attend Feeding one o one and doesn't have a clue about the feeder. It pokes it's bill everywhere except in the hole of the flowers. Now back to the pumps. They sold many Aermotors to replace windmills already there. Sold with stub towers to be used on the towers the farmers already had. Even if they sold new towers with the new mill , if you already had a pump and it works, no reason to change it.The Aermotor on the farm where I was born was on a ratty old wood tower, which I would bet at one time had a wooden wheel mill. So if you have a windmill and tower you probably also have a hand pump. No need to change the pump when buying a new Aermotor. You keep what you have. Money was tight. They upgraded the windmill and not the pumps. Even tho the pump under the windmill on our farm was an Aermotor pump, as one of my sisters remembers Aermotor and Chicago being on it. That's my thought for the day.

Re: Aermotor Pumps
I have to agree with you Wayne on your reasoning about the aermoter pump. I also imagine they were more expensive also. Now back to the hummingbirds, years ago I made a flower garden to attract the hummingbirds and I also have two feeders one by my porch and one down by my veggie garden. Like you i enjoy watching them

Re: Aermotor Pumps
In my area, 80% of windmills before 1925 were Pipe Raymonds, about the same number of pumps were Chandler, the Chandler pumps usually have the hardware store name, general store and in one case a drug store I saw. Most pumps seem to be bought locally here and Chandler seemed to have the market cornered
