A702 and what kind of tower?

Have a part you can't identify? Did your parts get mixed up in the shop? Curious if that chunk of metal is a part you should keep? Not sure what kind of windmill or tower you have? Post photos of the mystery object here for the community to help identify.

A702 and what kind of tower?

Post by mattshup »

Hi guys, my second post here. I've been looking into getting a "spinner" in my yard and this is a candidate that I have down the road from where I live. The neighbors almost wanted to give it to me when I inquired about it but they had to ask their kids before confirming. Either way, appears i might get this for cheap! :D

I flew my drone as close to it as I possibly could and snapped pictures of it. Do you guys by chance know roughly what year? Or where I should take a picture to find the year? Picture is kind of dark cause the sun wasn't playing nice with me and the head is tilted down, but they're are patent numbers also. I do see it says A702 though.

I see the spokes are bent in a couple of areas. What causes this? Can I just bend them back to straight with new sails? Is there more to it than that? I have the opportunity to buy an A602 model which has nice sails on it. I can transfer those to this ring? My plan is to restore this and go through it so I know the ins and outs of it for any future repairs I have to make.

Also, what tower is this potentially? I don't know anything about towers other than most Aermotor tower's have the ladder up a leg, which this does not.

Aermotor started making the 702 about 1933 as the 602 was made from about 1916 - 1933+/-. The date code would have originally been stamped on the top part of the hoop under the helmet.

I’d go with Challenge as my guess on the tower, but others will give you a more educated opinion.

I believe your tower is challenge. 602 wheel will bolt right on the 702 spokes once you straighten them.
