yes the underground drum idea is good. Put a screen over the tank overflow to keep the goldfish and leaves, etc out of the drum. Also, seal the top of the drum to keep foreign objects out.

I am missing one piece of the puzzle. This mill has the hoosier regulattor on it. I am looking for the pump rod connector casting if anyone knows of one

This is a better picture. Looks like it just clamps around the pump rod

Mike , thank you for the detailed drawing of the regulator system , now starting to make sence of how these mechanical wonders work .
