Dempster hub

Post by TdcJD »

Welp, I knew better, but I did it anyway. The other day I was trying to un-seize the Dempster 12 my neighbor gave me by whacking the ears with a hammer. And as anyone with an IQ above room temperature could have predicted, one of the ears popped right off! Luckily it was a clean break so I can braze it back on. After I teach myself how to braze that is haha. The mill did not un-seize

The hub is still on the mill, and it's too heavy for me to pick up to put in my truck. That'll have to be another time.

It's amazing how much our IQ goes up as we are holding the broke parts in our hands.

Haha it truly is! I wasn't even mad, I just sat there and laughed at how dump of a mistake it was. But I did decide that was enough windmill and went to working on my old tractor instead haha

Every Dempster windmill with a split hub comes with it's own removal tool. I have taught a few here this trick.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number.

We all have learned that lesson. I broke a hub on a baker by thinking I could knock it off with a hammer knowing all the time how brittle cast iron can be .
Went tap tap tap TAP TAP TAP then Bang bang crack

Yup that's about exactly how it went! Haha. I think I'll just set the Dempster aside for now to soak in oil for a good while. Maybe it'll be ready to free up when I finish my F&W. Hopefully.
