babbitt putty alternative

A friend of mine has divoriced babbitt putty. I was over at his house, and he was showing me a different material. I've never seen anything like it. It's called Kinetic Sand. He said all the issues with regular putty have gone away. If you have ever used babbitt putty, you know what I mean.

If it doesn't leak like real babbitt putty ... then there is no fun left.

I have seen people using this for casting low temp metals, usually in a flat open faced mold. How well will it stay in place on say a horizontal shaft/housing? What about if the sand is around a shaft at the bottom of a vertical pour?

Don't have answers on many questions. But it may be worth a shot anyway. I know that babbitt rite sure has it's share of issues.

I am going to pick some up in town in the morning, I hope Walmart has it? I am getting bright colored fingernail polish for writing on parts, a half dozen pair of panty hose for straining 5 gal buckets of paint and now children's clay, I just hope the checker don't think I am some kind of nut and call the police!
