NOS A702 question.

Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about windmills, in most cases.

NOS A702 question.

Post by mattshup »

Recently I came across quite the collection of windmill parts. I picked them up from a guy in Wyoming who was operating about 9 windmills for his cattle. He had got in a car accident last year and was no longer able to climb towers or maintain his mills. So he’s been switching all his windmills out to solar one by one as they start to go down.

He sold me everything that he had on the ground that was for spare parts and backup. Really lucky find i truly do believe along with a couple pump jacks and more. 3 A702’s, 1 B702, and I think a Challenge 27 unit that has seen better days but the wheel is brand spanking new.

With exception to the Challenge, all the Aermotors appear to be rebuilt units that were never put back into operation. I have no clue the history of the windmills and neither did he anymore. They’ve sat for 15 plus years he said. Fresh paint on all the wear points yet and no slop in pitmans or hub. The mice definitely made themselves at home in them but that wasn’t much to clean out.

Cleaning up one of the 8 footers I noticed some differences. Maybe it’s just me and my newness to windmills, but none of the other A702’s I’ve come across have had a back like this. There’s no branding on the back, The snoot ring looks right, but the hub looks worn out maybe also? Can see inside the hub shining a flash light through. Just curious on some insight on what’s going on with this mill? All the other ones look normal like I’ve seen just not this one.
