Dempster 12 identification

Have a part you can't identify? Did your parts get mixed up in the shop? Curious if that chunk of metal is a part you should keep? Not sure what kind of windmill or tower you have? Post photos of the mystery object here for the community to help identify.

Dempster 12 identification

Post by kenny78 »

Hi all, what a great forum. I have in to the temptation and picked up a motor. I know it’s rough but I had to save it before any more damage was done to make “yard art”. Dempster and 01201n along with the limited things I’m aware give me model 12. What little butchered fan was left makes me lean toward a6 foot fan but that’s where I could use help. The gear train is surprisingly smooth and working. Please let me know if more pictures or measurements are needed for I’d. Thank you

Yes that is a 6 foot #12 Dempster. A later model, maybe 50's or 60's due to the square head bolts, and what looks to be the older felt type oil seal. Plenty rebuildable if the case is not broken any place. Get everything you can possible get, even tho parts are easy to get, the whole wheel (fan) can be straightened. The more parts you can get , the less you need to buy.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.

Thanks windybob. What gives it away as a 6 footer? I’ll spare you pictures of the wheel, that was the yard art portion, destroying what could(at least some) have been straightened. On the tail vane and stem, what are dimensions in case I find something on the local market?

the 0120 number. the tail and tail frame would be around 6 ft long. A lot of times the tail and tail frame together are about as long as the fan is wide.

I agree with Windy , that motor appears to be in remarkably good condition for a hundred year old mechanical machine.
Sould be a quick refurbishment, sail blades straighten easily
Always look good when it’s up in the air 30 ft & spinning

Welcome to the forum.

The wheel/fan was uniquely adapted on that one in the ad. The gearbox looks to be in good shape.

That’s a kind way to put it. Luckily the car rim was bolted to the rear hub instead of modifying the hub as well. I am looking forward to scrounging parts so it will pump water again.
