Girts and rods for keyhole Aermotor tower

Post by Minnemiller »

Anyone close to or in MN have these? Trying to repair a tower need a few of each. I have dimensions and quantities if someone has any parts for one of these towers. Tower is for an 6ft or 8ft mill (the 2-1/4 main leg width).

Jud
You describe a tower slightly different from what I have seen in the field. The corner angle for these towers was 2.5 inches. There were no 6 foot Mills for this vintage of tower. They had platform holes at both 40 and 48 but only one set of mast base holes for 8' motors. I think these towers were built to accommodate eight foot and light wind ten foot mills. It is the only thing that makes sense.

Another variation, my tower has the platform holes at 30" & 45". Aermotor must have gotten a Black Friday deal on those button head bolts......glad they ran out and eventually went to square head bolts.

Both towers are 2.5" and don't have nibs for tower clamp or evidence of having any clamp. All the holes were galvanized so original.

Ron,
There were 6' mills made for this vintage of tower. 6' appear in the 1906 catalog. I have a tail to a 6' RA, as far as I know it's the only part ever found to a 6' RA. I have an earlier tower than what you have pictures of, that has a mast clamp on it. It's a square piece that slid over the top of the tower. No slots for the later style clamp. The tower I have is a peg leg one so maybe they tried it for a bit and went away I'm not sure.

Justin you are correct on the tower clamps i have a few of them with cast pieces. I believe there was a thread on this forum and I posted a pic.The tailbone you have with the round brace is1898 and earlier.I have a few pre 1900 tailbones and vanes including a original tailvane that was painted before they started galvanized around 1891.

Yes that tailbone is for my bell hub, just in there for size reference of the 6’.
