That would be Alaska Marine Highway, the state ferry system. All 12 ships at 20,000 tons or less, as I recall the Columbia was right at 20k. I worked in harbor and facilities engineering, some for a Naval Architect in Tacoma and San Francisco shipyards. I had lots of varied opportunities, being able to travel on a moment's notice and reputation of never saying no. One project involved adding 35 tons of lead to the keel of a ship to counter balance a generator previously installed on an upper deck. The stability test was quite interesting, required knowing what was in every space on the ship, water and fuel levels everywhere and then the test.
