See that one sign in the background says fertilizer. I didn't think they were fertilizing back then but I must have been wrong.

The y had been making fertilizer from bones for awhile, plus manure from cleaning out the barn. The first patent for a manure spreader was 1875, and fertilizer spreaders 1890's.

The thing that amazes me is how beautiful those old original horse drawn manure spreaders were they had fancy lettering and pinstripes and bright colors just to spread Crap !!
